List of Rules for boarders at Franklin House

SECURITY

Security at Franklin House is of the utmost importance.
All gates must be closed properly after entering or leaving the premises.
If you find a gate open or not properly latched, then it is your duty to close and secure it. Each person is responsible for his/her own room. As far as possible all the windows of your room also need to be secured, with the STEEL-PEGS provided for this purpose.

EMERGENCY

There is an ALARM CONSOL in the front hallway. In case of an emergency
One needs to depress the emergency button for at least 2 seconds for it to be
activated. The alarm will sound. ADT will dispatch the necessary vehicles and
help should arrive within 5 minutes. (F=Fire, M=Medical, P=Armed Patrol)

KEYS

The keys to the premises and to your room should be kept safe at all times.
Do not leave your keys lying around and under NO circumstance should they be loaned to friends so that they can gain entrance in your absence.

VISITORS

Relatives and Friends are welcome.
You are responsible for the conduct of your visitors.
Due consideration must be given to other people in the house.
Unruly behavior by your visitors will not be tolerated.

Visitors are permitted to sleep over OCCASIONALLY.
(Occasionally shall mean, �Not more than 2 nights a week�)

MALICE AND NEGLIGENCE

Malicious intent and/or gross negligence, which is likely to cause injury or harm to any other person or to property, will not be tolerated.

NOISE
Ringing the doorbell, playing loud music, shouting or clogging up and down the stairs late at night or in the Small hours is inconsiderate. In fact, any noise that bothers your housemates after hours will not be tolerated.

SMOKING

Smoking is NOT permitted in the kitchen or under the roofed area outside the garage.
There are designated smoking areas outside, on the FRONT or SIDE verandah�s, which are equipped with large sand ashtrays. Cigarette ends are not to be thrown in the garden or to be extinguished under foot.

If you smoke in your room then you need to use an ashtray and not to throw your cigarette butts out of the window nor to put them out in the pot plants, nor in coffee cups.
There are more than enough ashtrays to go round. These are kept in a cupboard in the kitchen.

FURNITURE AND APPLIANCES

Furniture and appliances in the kitchen, lounge and laundry are for everyone�s use and are not to be removed from these designated areas.
The Lounge heater and Kitchen radio are NOT to be taken to your rooms.

GARAGE

The Garage is STRICKLY out of bounds.
The borrowing of tools, cleaning agents and other materials from the garage, for whatever reason, is forbidden.

STORE-ROOM (UNDER STAIRCASE)

The Storeroom under the staircase is also strictly out of bounds.

ELECTRICITY AND WATER

The rentals are calculated to cover the cost of electricity and water. Please be responsible in their usage, so as to keep the rentals down. Switch OFF all unnecessary lights and appliances, especially any HEATERS and the STOVE.
DO NOT LEAVE TAPS RUNNING.

FIREPLACES

The Fireplaces in Rooms 1, 3 & 4 and in the LOUNGE are ornamental and CANNOT to be used. BAR-heaters, FAN-heaters and FUEL-heaters, such as gas or paraffin are banned.
Only OIL � RIB Heaters are permitted in the bedrooms.

TOILET FACILITIES

No-one is to urinate in bottles, plastic containers or out of windows. There are TWO latrines for this purpose.

PARKING FACILITIES

Visitors are NOT permitted to use the parking area.
There are only FIVE parking bays, which are assigned to tenants.

SOCIAL GATHERINGS

If you intend inviting friends around for a Social Gathering such as a Braai or Party, then you need to seek permission AND you also need to publish it at least a week in advance in the Diary, so that your fellow housemates are duly informed.
Consideration must be given at all times to neighbours and fellow housemates. Music and other noise levels will be kept at a reasonable intensity. Such Social Gatherings shall end at MIDNIGHT promptly.

DRUGS, ALCOHOL AND FIREARMS

The consumption of Narcotics or any other mind altering substance on the premises is strictly forbidden.
Hooliganism, rowdiness and drunken revelry will not be tolerated.
Firearms are strictly forbidden.

LAUNDRY FACILITIES

Washing machine
The washing machine has a limited capacity of 5 kg. DO NOT OVERLOAD.
You are only to use your own FULLY AUTOMATIC washing powder and softening agent.

Clothes irons

When you are done with the clothes iron. SWITCH OFF and to UNPLUG.

KITCHEN

You are not the only one that uses the kitchen. Please keep it tidy at all times.
Clean up when you have finished preparing food. Wipe the surfaces and put all waste in the bin.

Over Weekends, Public holidays or any other day on which the Maid is absent, you are expected to wash, dry and pack away any utensil that you have used.

DO NOT leave plates, cups, glasses, bottles etc�lying around in the lounge, in your bedrooms or on the patios. This is a sign of LAZZINESS and INCOSIDERATION.

The pilfering of any item from another�s food cupboard or from the refrigerators is actually THEFT and under no circumstance will it be tolerated at all.

DOGS

The Dogs at Franklin House are to remain in the backyard. Care should be taken not to give them a chance to enter the house by leaving the bottom part of windows open.
Under no circumstance are the dogs to be taken for a walk.

BICYCLES

The parking of bicycles, mopeds, scooters or any other form of TWO wheeled transport in the house, and that includes the room you are renting , is forbidden. These vehicles should be parked on the SIDE STOEP and in the cycle racks provided.
Any vehicle so stored should be locked and is stored at your OWN RISK .

TELEPHONE DIARY

The telephone diary is there to convey messages to your fellow housemates. It is not intended to be used as a commentary nor as a doodle-pad. Please keep your thoughts to yourself when using this instrument. DO NOT for any reason tear pages out of the diary. There are A5 note-pads for this purpose.
